Our sauvignon blanc is a powerful expression of what this grape can accomplish in the Dry Creek Valley area, an AVA that is perfect for sauvignon blanc production.  Crafted entirely in stainless steel with 5 months on the lees, the wine is well balanced and very focused.  Aromas of lemons and tropical fruit lead into citrus driven flavors of grapefruit, fig, and green apple, with a lingering finish and great mouthfeel.  Filtered before bottling to preserve the wine’s excellent acidity, but unfined to preserve its powerful flavor.  This is a strong, expressive, but balanced white wine, perfect with seafood, asian cuisine, fruits, light cheeses, and picnics.  We named the wine “Lazarie” after two people who are very important to us: Lorraine’s great grandfather “Lazarus Orlova” and Michael’s mother “Marie Barber.”  The grapes were hand picked from a single block of a sustainably farmed vineyard with rich, alluvial soils.

Dark and powerful, elegant and sophisticated, ‘Mr. Beast’ is a delicious wine characterized by its red fruit aromas and soft tannins.  A classic zinfandel, this wine showcases strawberry and raspberry fruit notes over vanilla and dark fruit flavors, backed up by Dry Creek Valley’s signature dust and black pepper.  This rich, bistro style red is perfect with any grilled meats, pasta sauce, hard cheeses, or chocolate.  To craft the wine we blended 80% zinfandel (primitivo clone) with 20% sangiovese (piccolo clone) to brighten the wine’s acidity.  For the best extraction of flavors, the grapes were fermented in small half-ton fermentation bins, with 2 hand punch-downs per day and a total maceration of 14 days.  The wine was then aged on a mix of French and American oak (15% new) for 10 months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.  The zinfandel and sangiovese are from two different blocks of bio-dynamically farmed vineyards on the valley floor.

2008 “KITTEN WITH A WHIP” ROSE

- Dry Creek Valley

  1. -Hand Picked, Hand Sorted

  2. -Vinified in Stainless Steel

  3. -Alcohol: 13%

  4. -85% Syrah, 15% Zinfandel

  5. -200 cases produced

This kitten is an elegant, dry rose crafted from a single, sustainably grown block of grapes.  Playful and Sophisticated, this unique wine is filled with the fresh aromatics of wild strawberry and roses that flow into subtle flavors of raspberries, plums, and cracked pepper.  Syrah grows brilliantly in the Dry Creek Valley climate.  The syrah for this wine, grown by the creek alongside our sauvignon blanc, was picked at acidity and sugar levels perfect for rose production before being hand sorted and crushed.  After a three hour maceration, the juice was pressed from the skins and vinified in stainless steel.  A small lot of primitivo zinfandel, vinified separately and without skin contact, was then blended into the wine for added richness and complexity.

UNTI

We have been extremely fortunate to work with the brilliant Unti vineyards.  Not only do they make excellent wines (some of Sonoma’s best we think), but they share our philosophy of balanced grape growing: sustainable practices that yield fine grapes of good acidity that aren’t overripe or too high in sugar.  All their vineyards are biodynamic and take full advantage of the climate and gravelly loam soils of Dry Creek Valley.  They grow what grows best in Dry Creek: our primitivo zinfandel comes from their valley floor estate while our sangiovese comes from their benchland property.

HANDLEY

Famous for her Anderson Valley pinot and vineyards, Milla Handley’s father owns a gorgeous Sonoma vineyard by the creek and close to Healdsburg.  The talented ladies of Handley, who are dedicated to organic viticulture practices, carefully monitor this Dry Creek estate where our sauvignon blanc and syrah grapes are grown.  The sustainably certified vineyard is in a surprisingly cool part of Dry Creek Valley that is rich in sandy, alluvial soils and yields grapes of fresh acidity and sharp balance.  We are lucky to be able to work with such knowledgeable and friendly grape growers like the folks of Handley.

GUNDLACH BUNDSCHU

One of the oldest and most legendary vineyards of Sonoma, this land has been owned and farmed by the same family since 1861.  Gundlach Bundschu is dedicated to sustainable agriculture and grows excellent Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals on their wonderful vineyard in Sonoma Valley.  Their rich history is matched only by the quality of their grapes, and we are proud to be working with them.  This vineyard supplies the cabernet and merlot grapes used in our forthcoming Sonoma Tuscan Blend “Lo Scuro.”
